Every time they have tried to place the crowns on my dental implants, there has been pain. My dentist and my oral surgeon can’t figure out why. Do you have any possible ideas?

It would be impossible to tell without examining you. There are just too many possibilities. Though, it is obvious there is a significant problem. There is general post-operative pain. I’m assuming you’re past that point (about a week or two). Also, I’m assuming your dentist has given you the appropriate three or four months of healing time before putting pressure on your dental implants. Is that correct?
If all that is covered, there are numerous potential pain sources. Have they checked if they are pressing on a nerve? Maybe they’re too small. You could have peri-implantitis or they could be in the wrong position. To be honest, there are just too many possibilities. I suggest you get a second opinion.
