I have two cavities…my first two. Not bad for 39 years old if you ask me. I’m kind of wanting to get the white kind of fillings, but my dentist wants to do the silver ones. He says the white ones aren’t as good. Are they really that bad, because I had my heart set on them. I’m willing to make minor compromises on quality in order to have my teeth look natural.

I have good news and bad news for you. You can very likely get white fillings…and you won’t have to compromise quality. In fact, white fillings are in many ways superior to their silver (amalgam) filling counterparts.
Not all dentists know how to place them, so that may be the reason your dentist is discouraging you from getting them. Don’t push him on the idea. These require a special technique to bond them. If he doesn’t know it well, you could end up with some complications.
My suggestion is to see a cosmetic dentist. They likely have the training you need.
